Our Mission
To aid homeless, abandoned and neglected dogs, to nurture them in volunteer foster homes, provide them with training, socialization and medical care, and to find them permanent, loving and responsible homes.
A 100% volunteer run rescue, New Start Dog Rescue of Illinois is also committed to decreasing the number of unwanted companion animals through spay/neuter programs and education.
New Start Dog Rescue of Illinois believes in working together to make a difference in the lives of dogs in need and the perception of adoption. The organization does not believe in competition between rescues, and instead want to work together to do as much as possible to support each other!
A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit
New Start Dog Rescue of Illinois is a 501(c)(3) foster-based dog rescue. The organization does not maintain a facility; all dogs are housed in individual foster homes. New Start Dog Rescue of Illinois was founded in May 2014 by five local animal lovers who believed they could make a difference.
The rescue is a 100% volunteer-based, not-for-profit charitable organization. Licensed by the Department of Agriculture, its dogs are all cared for in licensed foster homes. The organization is dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned puppies, dogs, kittens and cats of all breeds and situations. All donations are tax deductible and are used entirely to benefit the animals. There are no paid positions at New Start Dog Rescue of Illinois.
Our Board Members
Patty P.
Patty has volunteered in animal rescue for more than 15 years, beginning by fostering a single dog and discovering how rewarding the work can be. Over that time Patty has learned many rescue skills and met numerous passionate people. Helping dogs transform—providing safe shelter, food, love, consistency, and medical care—continues to motivate Patty. Patty is the parent of three grown children and grandparent to five grandchildren who love animals, and Patty teaches compassion so these grandchildren will become future rescuers.
Marianne A.
Marianne has believed in pet adoption since childhood. At age six a family friend took her to the Chicago Humane Society, where she chose her first dog. Many years ago she met Patty at the dog park; Patty was fostering and Marianne learned what is behind the scenes in rescue. Wanting to help, she offered her accounting skills and became the treasurer of New Start Dog Rescue. She also fosters, helps with fundraising and events. Her husband volunteers, too.
Kim Z.
Kim always had a deep love for dogs and grew up bringing home stray animals. After adopting their first dog, they began volunteering with the rescue and offering hands-on support. Since then, they have been involved in many different aspects of the organization.
